I had a fantastic night at the pub. Some people who had come for the first time the other Sunday came back for another singalong. Then a couple from London left to get their train but came back two minutes later to carry on singing. And there was a little group sat at the bar who joined the choir. The mixture of old-time songs and classical solos went on until eleven.
I got talking to all the customers who took part, and they were really very kind. One of them is a printer, and he has offered to print and laminate some of my songbooks.
After all the customers had left, I worked my way through the pints that had been put aside for me, and nattered to the barman. I chose the music. We started with Ti Ricordi, Ti Giurasti by Frenando Sor. I neither know nor care what the words mean, but it's one of my favourite pieces of all. Above you will find a link to it. Then it was Edith Piaf singing Bravo Pour Le Clown and Les Flon-Flons Du Bal. Then it was the delightful Il M'a Vue Nue sung by Mistinguett, about a young woman bathing in a stream, spotting a peeping tom and raising her hands to cover her face, thereby revealing a sight more. This is an old music-hall song. They would never have got away with it in this country. Here's a link to it:
