Yesterday was quite a day. I had been warned on Saturday that the historic building might possibly not open on Sunday. I agreed to leave my keyboard there in case it did open, on the basis that I would be contacted if it would be closed. I duly received a message on Saturday evening to confirm the latter, and was told that I would be let in to collect the instrument between 4.30pm and 5pm.
I kept myself busy yesterday. Having cleaned the carpets in the living-room, hallway and passage, I decided to make some soup with the liquid from the previous day's boiled bacon. I went the whole hog and even rendered down the bacon fat to make the soup.
After I'd finished cooking I did a bit of ironing, including the clothes I wanted to wear at the pub later. This all done, I played a couple of card games on the computer.
I arrived at the historic building at 4pm and waited. I waited and waited until 6pm, having left a message on the voicemail of the person I'd been waiting for. In the end I could wait no longer, so went to the pub to cancel my booking, and to explain what had happened. I was almost incoherent when I got there, and the barman gave me a stiff drink to calm me down.
Afterwards I went to the offy and bought a few tins of the cheap rocket-fuel that's labelled 'cider'. While I was there the person called me, very apologetic, to say he'd forgotten, and that he would sort out the money I had lost.
