The other day the leader of a world religion met with a woman who claims she has been made a martyr because of her religious beliefs. Actually she hasn't. The issue is that she believes she has the right not to do her job properly because of her religious convictions. In most jobs, refusal to carry out a reasonable part of one's job would be treated as gross misconduct and would normally lead to dismissal. What she should have done is to hand in her notice. I don't give a fuck what she believes in or how bigoted she is, but she does not have the right to enforce her views on others. I can't for the life of me understand why she has even been allowed to keep her job.
Now the leader of a world religion says that his meeting this woman does not mean that he endorses her actions. However neither does he say what the reason for the meeting was. I wonder to myself, what exactly does he mean? He's not usually so short of words.
