Just now

I went outside for a fag, noticed how lovely the weather is, and started thinking, as is my wont. I remembered the documentary series about the First World War, and thought of the obscene numbers of young people who were sent to the slaughter. And all because of a family feud between the Coburgs. It's a pity that the other combatant nations didn't follow Russia's example at the time. But then those times were very different from our own. People thought differently then. The exaltation 'For King and country' was enough to compel people to enlist. There was sometimes the exaltation 'For God, King and country'. Of course there is never any connection between religion and war, is there? Oh no. Of course not. Yawn.
