The thick fog that covered us yesterday finally lifted at about 5.30pm. It descended again at around 7pm and is still with us. It's a bit chilly but I really like it. I don't want to show you another picture of the fog, so I've chosen another of my favourite flowers instead, common or garden hollyhocks. I don't like the double ones at all. The old-fashioned type in the picture has much more character. They are stately and cheerful, and the bees love them. I like the limited colour palette; you only get them in reds, pinks and white. Lovely! I'm looking forward to summer now.
I went to the pub after dinner yesterday, still feeling a bit uncomfortable and prickly from the previous day. I went over to the keyboard and belted out some of the old songs. A small group of visitors said they wanted to sing, so I handed out the hymn-books and off we went. It was fun. Two pairs of friends came in at different times, and we had a nice chat. A new couple came in and we got talking. She played the piano beautifully, and he was into architecture. I was as happy as a pig in shit; we talked about penny gaffs, music-hall songs, Pugin, Victorian architecture and social history. Later on two of my family turned up so we had a good chat and lots of laughs.
I spoke to the landlord. Where I was heading for a meltdown the previous day, I had been a bit short with him in my rushing to get away. I told him properly what I was struggling with re Cunt the First. I also told him that I had apologised to the said cunt for my previous outburst, and said that I would not apologise if it happened again.
I do not feel as deliriously happy as I did a couple of days ago, but I do feel much more at peace than I did yesterday.
