I have had a passion for carnatic music ever since I first heard it at the age of seventeen. It reminds me of baroque music in so many ways; there is implied harmony, a counterpoint between the instruments, the drone bass (tambura) reminds me of a harpsichord continuo. The music is poised, graceful, inflected and full of gesture and nuance.
I played this video of a South Indian classical dance genre called Bharathanatyam to the odd bunch when they came for dinner. They were bowled over by it as much as I was. I hope you like it.
