I couldn't settle down last night because of the odd mood I was in, so I went back to the pub. I', glad I did, because my brother, his partner and some good friends had turned up. I felt very awkward and uncomfortable to start with, as the place was so crowded, but I hung in there. I need to try and overcome my reaction to crowded places. I found it all so much easier to deal with when I started playing for my friend's birthday. I was in my element. The atmosphere was wonderful, with some particularly enthusiastic singing from a group of Irish visitors.
During the interval, and after a couple of pints of cider, I nattered variously in French and Spanish with friends whose native languages they are. There was a funny moment when I persuaded my Belgian friend to sing 'Alouette' as a solo, and he forgot the words. Last night turned into a real party, and I do hope that my friend enjoyed it.
I cam home feeling really happy.
