Tomorrow I have two or three friends coming to mine for an evening meal. It will be simple, hearty food, but nothing like as extravagant as the meal in Lancret's painting. We're having Toad in the Hole.
Toad in the Hole? What race other than the British could possibly have their gastric juices tempted into flowing, by a dish with such a hideous name? Well it's simple and delicious, and even more delicious when eaten in the company of such lovely people.
