Exam results

I went up the pub after dinner and there was only one customer. My brother was on duty so we had a good natter. A bit later, the pub started filling up with some of the nicest people, the majority of whom are my friends. Actually my friends are all nice people, otherwise I wouldn't want to be friends with them. Then he whose name I shall not repeat turned up. It's a good thing he did, because he was the quiz-master. My team-members were my brother, his partner and a regular at the pub.
Round one was a picture round about characters from children's television programs. I stood back as I know absolutely nothing about them. Round two was you had to guess the name of a pop song from some obscure lyrics. That was that. I could feel my brain starting to implode, so I took myself outside and nattered to some friends who had just arrived. When I heard the sound of food being distributed I went inside to get my share, but ate it outside.
After a while I heard "local history round" being called. I flew inside faster than a fly to a turd. It's a good thing that I did, because the questions were very obscure. Having worked at the local museum, the questions weren't obscure to me. We scored the highest on that round. The next round was on food and drink, and  muggins alone recognised that (whatever it was) it was a variety of apple. Our team came second. I'm so glad that I could contribute something. I have a dread of being marginalised.
Afterwards it was laughter, chatting and conviviality, all washed down with an unspecified number of pints. I congratulated the quiz-master and thanked him for giving us such a good evening. He was nice yesterday and such fun, and didn't give anyone the hair-dryer treatment. That was a good night.
