I was fascinated by the Victorian Punch articles I read yesterday. I bought the book second-hand some years ago, but have never read it properly. I was surprised at how humane some of the articles were, particularly on workhouse conditions, poverty and capital punishment. I was pleasantly shocked at how scathing some of the attacks on the government and the privileged were, including on individual politicians and members of the royal family.
