A new experience

I really enjoyed my friend's visit. When I think about it, it's the first time that someone has visited me in my own right  for that length of time. I am not used to talking so much, but I didn't struggle at all. I enjoyed conversing with someone who is highly intelligent and thinks similarly to myself. English food has a terrible reputation in Europe, that it rightly deserved once upon a time. My friend enjoyed what I made, and took more when he was offered. I initiated him into the hidden arcana of working people's food; black pudding, fig rolls, toad-in-the-hole, brown pickle and pease pudding. We ate regularly and very well. We had one or two nice walks. He gravitated towards the pub while I made dinner. There was lots of fun and laughter, as well as lots of seriousness. I'm so looking forward to his next visit.
