A stick in the mud

I am interested in authenticity in performance, and this informs whatever I play or listen to. I belong to some harpsichord groups on Facebook. On one of these, someone is posting the scores of some Scarlatti sonatas. I could not believe what I saw when I looked; it's a prehistoric edition, very heavily edited by Paderewski. What the fuck is going on?
